An honest-to-goodness scary show... Scarier than it is smart, and that's not a knock against it.

Haunted is moody and atmospheric, but it's also filled with umpteen cliches, including the blind man who spouts Yoda-like wisdom

The first episode is well-made, with good writing and the sort of exposition that illuminates without being obvious.

Effectively atmospheric if unrelievedly grim.

Stephen King has been pretty much a bust on TV, but Haunted delivers a decent fright while clouding its refreshingly unglamorous hero in inky ambiguity.
