Critic Reviews for False Friends
We, the Homeland viewers, will live to endure this set's unnerving tonal shift for at least another episode.
An old saying about keeping your friends close and your enemies closer comes to mind. As this final season of Homeland heats up, it's getting harder to tell the difference.
What's most interesting so far about the final season of Homeland is its melancholy recognition of the show's staying power embedded in a commentary on how the world has gone through cycles of violence since the tragedy of 9/11.
The third episode of the final season of Homeland was a quiet stage-setter by all accounts. But it did, nevertheless, manage to wrestle with some weighty themes.
The grand design of Homeland's final series is, as yet, enjoyably indistinct.
The writers and showrunners seem aware of and willing to comment on the show's former failings, but the question of how they will rise to overcome those failings is still an open question.
There is a morbid satisfaction in watching the pieces come together at a slow boil. It's so intriguing, I can even overlook how randomly underwhelming Max's subplot of being a regiment's "lucky charm" has been in his final year on TV.
