Based on an Israeli Academy Award-winning TV drama series, "In Treatment" features a psychologist confronting some uneasy personal truths. For the first three seasons, the featured doctor is middle-aged Paul Weston, who has sessions with his own psychotherapist. After more than a decade off the air, the Golden Globe-winning series returned with Dr. Brooke Taylor as the psychoanalyst. Her task: help her patients navigate a variety of modern concerns, including the global pandemic and shifts in the social and cultural landscapes. But she has her own complications in her personal life to deal with while helping her patients with theirs.

What is clear is that the series weaves layer after layer of complex emotion and drama, allowing enough variation and fluidity to keep each episode distinctive from the last. Go to Full Review

This show is a complete disaster and I am at a complete loss as to why it has had American critics so bedazzled. The dialogue is hammy and clichéd, and you can see every kink and fold of what passes for its plot coming from about eight miles away. Go to Full Review

I can't say that what I have seen has fired any interest in therapy itself, but it has certainly changed my perspective on the ingredients of good television. Go to Full Review

There are about 400 episodes in a season of In Treatment, all mini-plays that individually rank among the most electric half hours on TV but, cumulatively, make up one of the most intelligent series reboots in recent memory. Go to Full Review

In Treatment's superb cast and engaging writing alone are enough to recommend it. Go to Full Review

Alain E @AlainE Sep 23 The series is well crafted, but goes on and on. Actual psychotherapy lasts years, but I don’t think that any viewers would like to follow the minutiae of actual sessions. It has many strong points but at episode 23 I decided I had enough. Gabriel Byrne is extremely good but his character not entirely realistic. In his office he appears empathetic and compassionate and then in his own home does not seem to care much about his wife or their children. The writers apparently decided that noone will behave without psychopathology in the whole show. Only Dianne Wiest so far remained flawless. There are some technical oversights: a psychotherapist never reveals elements of his own life to his patients. In my experience the patients, including adolescents, are not on a first name basis with the therapist. Of course no medications are stored in the bathroom available to patients and in any way pills swallowed start affecting the person after at least thirty minutes and not instantly as we see with the young girl. Wasikowska is not overweight by any definition, but competitive gymnasts are underweight, which she is clearly not. Otherwise she plays her teenage rebel character with aplomb. Finally, it was a pleasant surprise for me to see Mark Wahlberg as an executive producer, an actor that I don’t associate with similar work.
