Modern-day black women might be described as strong and confident; in other words, just the opposite of Issa and Molly. As the best friends deal with their own real-life flaws, their insecurities come to the fore as together they cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences. Created by co-star Issa Rae and writer/comic Larry Wilmore ("The Daily Show With Jon Stewart"), the comedy series looks at the friendship of two black women in a unique, authentic way. It features the music of both indie and established artists of color, and touches on a variety of social and racial issues that relate to the contemporary black experience.

Insecure, which punctuated each episode with steamy love scenes filtered through an explicitly female perspective, was also among the sexiest TV shows of the uncensored streaming era. Go to Full Review

In the end, Insecure permitted us to root for ourselves (and everybody Black). With the show's end, Issa Rae's legacy is set. It's exciting to imagine what more she has to offer. Go to Full Review

Honestly, this season has been a bit of a rough battle; it's had some remarkable highlights... But it's also felt inconsistent and elusive throughout. Go to Full Review

The writers know what they're doing, though. With her talent, dedication, and brilliant mind, Issa Rae will end this series her way, and I'm down with that. Go to Full Review

The writing is casually sharp and and spit-take funny, making Issa's potentially soul-crushing struggles with men, rent and career advancement somehow life-affirming and hilarious. Go to Full Review

Yash B @yashbansal 06/27/2024 One thing I definitely want to give props to the HBO series, "Insecure," for is that it is exceptionally consistent. I genuinely couldn't tell you which season of this series is my favorite, I think all of the story arcs bring something of value. The show has a lot more comedy early on, but over time hits more dramatic notes, all of which work because of the characters and their struggles and relationships with each other. I do think the ending of the series mostly works, but the structure of the episode makes some conclusions feel a bit rushed. Nonetheless, it is a show that consistently innovates and is very well written and is easy to watch in large volumes at a time. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone looking for something relatable and honest, but also with a good mix of humor and entertainment value. See more I'Esha S 07/24/2023 Through beginning to end this series was amazing. When I first sat down to watch this series I can say it was the exact mood for me. helping me pull through many struggles of insecurity myself, giving me a new perspective to see myself in a new light. The fact that it wasnt all about perfection and there were so many mistak and flaws involved bringing realistic vibes and relatable gestures to the audience. This show isn't solely about confidence, and that's what makes it very interesting, not everyday are we at our best. There are at least another version of ourselves that we don't allow the world to see, for personal reasons knowing how critically harsh and bold people are, we tend to keep this part of ourselves in our own safe keeping, peeking through in moments we would love to react truly and authentically but not allowing much space to completely break free, so what do we do, we reflect through moments, and we manifest. What than happens as issa was the ultimate goal in my book, going to her best friend there was transition. With some therapy sessions because some of us are more physical than mental and there visual is more verbal. With all the relationship encounters and dissecting from the inside, she finally realized that unmasking was needed from her own mind. It took time and patience, at times she seemed to have but when we are so underwhelmed situations becoming unbearable, and questioning ourselves began to flow as water to a broken faucet, change is coming, change is happening, and it becomes your decision to make on whether you are going to keep filling with pain or unplug the drain. As I've mentioned, each character played a relevant and impacting role, I could go on and on about how amazing this series was. 👏🏾 See more Daryl D @DmacVisuals 01/28/2023 Character arc progression of everyone well done See more keith s 06/05/2022 One of the best shows of all time. The show is very underrated. See more jon c 04/15/2022 This is the end…HBO Max and Issa Rae present the 5th and final season Issa and her friends are about to move into the phase of their lives but not before tying up some loose ends Issa officially heads to Stanford University for her 15 year reunion Meanwhile she's trying to patch things up with Molly after they ended up having conflicting ideas on love, friendship, and growing up Molly also reels from her recent breakup as best she can and juggling her job to stay ahead She might jump back into the dating pool but at the same time her mother is feeling ill Lawrence is also a new father but split from his sons mother trying to make it work; he may or may not be over Issa Tiffany as a new mother is moving with her husband so it's a mighty adjustment Is there no way to be sure you've made the right choice, we all wish we could fast forward to the part of our lives where everything is ok, work can't matter more than real life Issa doesnt want to be stuck but rather move forward and she's trying to make her job work despite her clients being reluctant changing their approach This season is all about establishing new beginnings, keeping a broken family together, absent parents, and being really intentional with the ones we love The final episode has Issa reconsider her life choices imagining which ending she will be happier in Some plot threads they really could've expanded on and absorb more and at times it feels a bit inconsistent but the last season explores friendship, love, and self-esteem very nicely If there ever was a show showing the average/crazy emotional journey of a typical black woman in Los Angeles this one nails it Considering this also reflected Issa Rae's real-life it allows us to root for her to set the next stage of moving onward It's always a struggle whether it's men, love, rent or career advancement for any woman black or not but it's a necessary endeavor ‘Insecure' is a universal thing for us all and thankfully this show tells us we can learn many ways to get around it See more 03/03/2022 Worst show on TV. I almost want to cancel my premier cable. Horrible acting. Slow to rise in any setting. I saw the preview for the last episode with the unbelievable sex scene. Looked like they were uncomfortable and I was also. I fell asleep watching about 5 minutes of the show. Horrible, dumb show to say the least. See more Read all reviews
