In this hourlong docuseries, actress Leah Remini turns investigative reporter, she says, to "share the shocking truth about Scientology," the secretive, controversial church that Remini herself was a member of for years. With her personal experience acting as a driving force, Remini -- along with high-level former Scientology executives and members -- relates shocking stories of abuse and harassment alleged by ex-practitioners who claim their lives have been affected even well after they left the organization. The Church of Scientology, which has made multiple attempts to have A&E Network pull the series, refers to Remini as a "has-been actress" who's exploiting her former religion to make money.

"Scientology and the Aftermath" pulls back that curtain, while delivering a sobering warning to those who might be susceptible to the sales pitch. Go to Full Review

Remini's overall likability is this program's most valuable asset. She's a credible guide whose genuine New York-bred personality makes someone picture having her over for a book club or poker night, and her brashness lends an unvarnished humanity. Go to Full Review

It's a lot of sitting around talking, interspersed with footage from fairly innocuous Scientology promotional videos and event interviews. Go to Full Review

Instead of piles of trash illustrating mental illness, a documentary-style reality series gives us first-person stories illustrating the abuses of an organization they once deeply trusted. Go to Full Review

But in taking a light to an alley few dare to tread, Remini may have given some viewers out there more than a hope and a prayer. Go to Full Review

The tension between Remini's story and Scobee's experience is a driving force of Scientology & The Aftermath - as is Remini's guilt over actions she took while still a member of the church she now denounces. Go to Full Review

drangus f @Dangus 09/29/2022 I'm really grateful for Leah Remini and Mike Rinder. Every mormon needs to watch this show. The parallels between Scientology and Mormonism are strikingly similar. See more 09/18/2021 I've never known anything about this religion (I'm very open minded), but what I find most telling, was the Church's childish responses to any outside or inside criticism (a kindergartener could write less tit for tat responses). Coupled with so many individuals, telling the same story, of beatings, abuse, confinement, control games, retaliation, separation from loved ones, etc. If this is what liberation and enlightenment looks like, count me out! The authorities need to investigate this group, before something really bad happens. As for tax status, I don't appreciate paying for the roads they drive on to make their billons while they are abusing their parishioners. Lets open a Scientology rehab outside everyone of their centers, saying ESCAPE HERE. See more 12/28/2020 The courage to speak out, knowing full well about repercussions, impressed me. See more 06/29/2020 Open and honest account of Scientology, the Sea Org and the practices behind this money hungry, family destroying organization. Thank God for Leah, Mike and all the others that have bravely chosen to shine a light on the mistreatment of this organization's members, including molestation & abandonment of children. God help anyone who chooses to join. They are risking way too much for way too little by doing so. This is a must watch for anyone even considering joining. See more 05/10/2019 This series was a revolutionary exposé that opened my eyes to the horrors of Scientology and had me tearing up more than any show I've ever watched. This is an absolute must-see. See more 04/03/2019 The program is informative but her foul mouth spoils it and makes it hard viewing. Don't producers know blooping it out we still "hear" it. In Zimbabwe it is "blanked" out and mostly goes un-noticed See more Read all reviews
