Based on the Walt Longmire mystery novels by best-selling author Craig Johnson, this contemporary crime drama stars Australian actor Robert Taylor in the title role, the charismatic and dedicated sheriff of Absaroka County, Wyo. Longmire patrols the county with a brave face and sense of humor, but deep inside he hides the pain of his wife's recent death. With the urging of his daughter, Cady, and the help of Vic, a new female deputy, Longmire gains a new appreciation of his job and decides to run for re-election. He's committed to putting his life back together, one piece at a time, and he often calls on best friend and confidant Henry Standing Bear for support.

It will be interesting to see how and when the show begins to address the finality of things, and whether or not Longmire plans go out big or if it will stay business as usual for the sheriff of Absaroka County. Go to Full Review

Joseph O @Joey87 Nov 3 Longmire is just a fantastic show. Robert Taylor is perfect as the quiet, tough sheriff, and the mysteries are always interesting. It's a really well-made show with great characters and amazing scenery that just pulls you in. See more mac b @RT14413101 11/13/2024 Interesting show...most of the episodes resolve themselves and are solid mysteries. The ongoing plotlines can get clunky. For those who like Westerns, Yellowstone, Columbo, or Robert B. Parker books...you'll enjoy this...a few nitpicks: a) Most of the series, the show kept hinting at a romance between the sheriff and his deputy...but I thought the obvious age difference made this plotline a bit creepy., and b) they tend to say the term "the res" (for Reservation)...so often that you'll either find it irritating or a fun drinking game. See more Janie J @RT50414355 11/07/2024 Good clean show..very little blood, cussing, sex, and violence. Good show to watch with your tweens. See more John O @ThreeRivers 03/12/2023 Spoilers: This 6 seasons start with the obvious. Walter is a Germanic name meaning "commander of the army." And Longmire? He is in a long mess of mire, as the third meaning of mire, besides bog and marsh and mud, is "a troublesome or intractable situation." So he is the commander, all right, the sheriff, in one troublesome or intractable situation after another. And he is a Wyoming cowboy, hat and boots and all, deep voice, steely backboned Marlboro man of few words, trying to do good. Focused like a laser on catching the bad guys, around 60, been around the block and the rez forever, puts together clues in rapid fire, solves crime. Which touches on the narrative of two cultures, giving this series high marks for color and flavor, easily moving from white man's world to Native American, back and forth. Taylor, who holds the top role well, and captivating Katee, the two the heart of it, with wonderful Lou, good Cassidy, A and Graham and Zahn, and saucy Ally and Radha, Gerald and Peter Weller, the old Robocop, who actually, like Lou, even directed one episode. Some of the cases when this is mostly a police procedural become repeatedly formulaic, as Walt's straight talk, overall decency moved the bad guys and gals to confess, which stretches credibility, and adds to some other logical flaws in scripts. But the personal stories become a big focus, as one of Longmire's deputies goes bonkers and finally dead. Walt gets into legal and other trouble. The long game of will he and Vic, Katee, or won't they, keeps us watching. And me a big fan of Katee. I'll look for her again. I watched all six seasons in less than two weeks, so it kept me watching. The juxtaposition of Indian attitudes and spirituality and wariness of anything the once genocidal and now Jim Absaroka Crow white establishment does, and Indian police jurisdiction over the reservations, with the white court system with Walt and his deputies shows willingness of good men on both sides  to have to resort to skirting the rules and laws to do good things. So it is a series for adults, not kids, and throw in some green too, not as in cash, but as in Irish mob. Happy St. Pat's Day. And bravo for this long series in the big sky and wide open spaces of the contemporary West in Wyoming, where attitudes are slow to change but a sheriff in the storm's eye can be well read and a cultured piano player besides sharp as a knife to get to the bottom of things.  Throw in love interests and a dad daughter tricky relationship and there you go. The ending ties up all loose ends, including Walt and Vic uniting their loose ends, finally. Walt gets out of the sheriff business, but the Longmire name doesn't necessarily, as he talks daughter Cady into running for sheriff. Katee Sackhoff forever! Cassidy Freeman, Cady, with the most striking eyes ever, was OK at first, but I saw her acting chops grow over six years, showing both strength and vulnerability. Best series we have ever watched. Didn't want to see it end!! See more 03/11/2021 Season 6 should have been scrapped and saved the series. Unimaginative, formulaic of an unethical older man's fantasy - out of character of who the story was built on. The first four seasons were unexpectedly brilliant mysteries woven into rural life- on the res and off - many of us know little about. But something happened in the writing, and the last season, the last episode in particular was a pathetic betrayal to what could have been a theatrical masterpiece. See more Read all reviews
