Manhunt examines its real-life case in a way that won't burn you out and won't bore you to tears. That and Clunes' confident performance will keep you watching.

Manhunt's navigations of clues and dead ends at times are enough to keep this pot simmering if not boiling. Nor is there anything wrong with Clunes' lead performance, which unfortunately is in service to a not-so-greater whole.

Manhunt is reassuring to watch - and not only because Sutton and company do catch the killer who, I'm happy to say, isn't romanticized or made somehow "colorful."

It exposed, horribly, the random cruelty of the world...but offered the small hope that there were good people out there, quietly cross-referencing, mapping, listening, making sure the worst stories had the best ending possible.

At times, Manhunt feels like an exploitative theme-park ride through one of the biggest tabloid stories of the millennium.

This is a realistic glimpse into actual policing, where originality counts a good deal less than persistence.
