After exacting revenge on the people responsible for the deaths of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs deeper than New York's criminal underworld. Now known as the Punisher, he must dig deep into the conspiracy to discover the truth about injustices that affect more than just him and his family. Assisting the vigilante in his quest to fight criminals are best friend Billy Russo, who runs private military corporation Anvil, and former NSA analyst Micro, who shares common enemies with Castle and helps him as part of a so-called marriage of convenience.

It's been the mode of almost all of the streaming giant's Marvel shows: dull, often pointlessly nasty brutality with some languid speechifying between crunching bones. In the Punisher's case, though, it's not even artful fist-fighting. Go to Full Review

The Punisher does an admirable job of depicting PTSD symptoms seriously, sympathetically, and accurately. Go to Full Review

If you're going to glorify violence and tell your audience that what Frank is doing is right, you must make sure there's a line drawn in the sand. Go to Full Review

The Punisher is an unforgiving tour-de-force of brutal scenes and a great central plot that keeps weaving the characters around until it all boils over in a satisfying way. Go to Full Review

Jack W @jackwww57 Jan 23 I like this show a lot , but …… There is this element in original content produced by streaming services. It’s called Plot Repetition. The story is simplified and the plot point are repeated over and over. This makes the show much slower and boring. It’s especially true for this type of show that should be fast paced and exciting. After giving the series a chance, that initial assessment proved to be correct. His presence on screen is that of a smaller, less-built man, his acting style is far too animated/neurotic, and he simply doesn't give off any sort of cold, calculating, unstoppable "Punisher" vibe like the actors that have come before him in this role (admittedly, Thomas Jane wasn't the best Frank Castle either, but still much better than Bernthal). If the show were written and directed better, I could have possibly looked past the poor casting choice for Frank, but the writing in this series is just awful and truly lacks an understanding of how The Punisher typically operates. It is clear that the writers of this series were not fans of the original Punisher comics, and likely never even opened one. I had to turn it off toward the end of the third episode where Frank walks into a warehouse using a hand grenade as a bluff to speak a few meaningless words to 3 bad guys that are about to torture or execute another man that is blindfolded and tied up in a chair. Frank then throws the grenade (which is a fake/dud) at their feet and runs behind some boxes, narrowly avoiding getting gunned down in the back, so that he can then proceed to kill all three of them in a poorly directed gun fight. What a joke. The Punisher would never make a Hollywood nonsense entrance like this, especially without any purpose for it at all. Rather, we would likely see the power go out in the warehouse and all three men shot dead in a few seconds with Frank Castle coming down from the rafters after clearing the room. This show could have had a lot of potential with a better lead actor and better writers. A shame. This show is extremely successful in presenting The Punisher as portrayed in the comics. The character is very relatable, but in his most violent moments, he becomes an unrelatable monster. This is extremely accurate for the character, and I give this show lots of praise for being able to capture that. I also really love how the lighting was changed to cast shadows on Frank's face that perfectly captures the comic book imagery. See more Read all reviews
