Andrew and Lauren are about to have a baby, and they're finding it pretty difficult to keep the news from friends and family. When the secret gets out, the couple learns it can be just as demanding to navigate the politics of parenthood as it'll be raising a child. Knowing what's best for your child is easy compared to maintaining sane relationships with friends and family.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Notes From the Underbelly can be funny at times, but it's mostly an uninspired and clichéd sitcom about pregnancy.

This is all fitfully amusing... but it all just feels so same-old, same-old on a network that seems intent on yuppifying every possible genre and type of show. Go to Full Review

Unexpectedly, it's funny. And it gets funnier and sharper in future episodes. Go to Full Review

Neither of the show's lead characters is particularly appealing. Andrew is a self-absorbed whiner and Lauren, though the more level-headed one, is not much better. Together, the two of them have little to no chemistry. Go to Full Review

Of the cast, Westfeldt is likable and possesses great timing, but most of the comedy here is stillborn. By obsessing about the minutiae of pregnancy, "Underbelly" is of interest to only a few. "The Wonder Years," this ain't. Go to Full Review
