Feb 24, 2020
Pan Am is too obsessed with its surroundings, to focus on anything like characters or having a point.

A messy collision of genres mashing a Mad Men-inspired '60s homage with an empowerment story for women - and, believe it or not, a James Bond-style espionage thriller.

Maybe it's all an ill-conceived homage to classic Sixties shows like The Man from UNCLE or The Saint.

Unlike Playboy's cramped, claustrophobic intrigue, at least Pan Am takes us somewhere.

Pan Am doesn't say much of anything about the current state of the nation except that our best days are behind us.

Pan Am feels like a watchable version of something whose core has been removed.

Every television series launches on a wing and a prayer, perhaps none more than this entertaining, glossy drama.

A show with more moving parts than a jumbo jet.

Take the back stories, add the unfolding drama of love, loss, disappearances and danger, shake it all up and it could be a tasty cocktail.
