05/06/2022 Similar to Tom and Jerry Tales, the underrated Pink Panther and Pals brings its titular cartoon character to the 21st-century without going for any cringey, hip, stereotypical DreamWorks-style humour with good animation, funny slapstick and memorable episodes, even if Big Nose can come off as much less villainous than the writers intended him to be sometimes and the episodes with Ant & Aardvark are decent but forgettable and basically Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner with dialogue (and also the same subtle manipulation that has me rooting for the one not voiced by Kel Mitchell of Good Burger fame). The premise of one of those episodes takes a weird cue from Ice Age 3 where there's a prehistoric world underneath the normal world. Also, these separate segments never had a crossover outside of the intro and with the show getting cancelled immediately, they never will. Pink Panther and Pals wasn't flawless but I had fun watching it and wish it didn't get cancelled immediately. The only other signs of life after this show were a one-off Christmas special and some comics and that was about it for the Pink Panther IP. Even if you didn't like this cartoon, I think we can all agree it's a helluva lot better than the Steve Martin films (which I remember seeing a commercial on TV for the second movie and being confused as to what this French inspector has to do with the cartoon character, not realising that the movies came first and the cartoons were based off of the opening-credit sequences where the Panther is the personification of a diamond that apparently gets stolen all the damn time). Certainly more memorable anyway. See more Read all reviews
