Honestly, the most interesting developments this week have nothing to do with Archie and his ragtag group of friends. It's their parents, particularly Alice, Fred, and F.P. that make this episode so engrossing.
It is great to see Alice Cooper's mask finally crack. The raving lunatic we all knew was hiding underneath finally comes out to play for a bit.
Only in Riverdale would a baby shower be more frightening than a construction site brawl or a visit to a gang bar.
Even as Fred is disappointed in his former friend, F.P.'s is appreciative of the guy for taking his son in and giving him a good home. There's a sadness in their scenes, something absent in the other Riverdale Parent scenes.
Mrs. Cooper tries desperately to convince her daughter that when they sent her away to the home for unwed mothers, they never wanted her to feel alone, unwanted or unloved. Well, that's a swing and a miss on all three, eh?
Will we find out who killed Jason by season's end? Or will they leave us hanging, Twin Peaks-style? (Note to the producers: Please don't leave us hanging. You don't want to follow in the footsteps of Twin Peaks Season 2, do you?)
The Outsiders felt more like a transitional episode that stopped to sort out everyone's feelings about certain situations, but left out other aspects and developments.
There are decades of hate and history influencing these pre-existing relationships throughout the generations. There's so much depth to these characters.
Chapter Eight: The Outsiders spends far too much time on stories that don't really enhance the main plot.
