The skirmishes carry more than a ring of truth, and while the couples police may not like it, the broad minded almost certainly will. Go to Full Review

It's a wry and funny look at modern sexual mores in that most modern of modern cities through the eyes of Bradshaw. Go to Full Review

Sex and the City is fluff, but, once past the jarring opening credits, it's enjoyable fluff. There are some clever lines and its ditzy feel provides a nice counterpoint to the unusually frank -- for TV, at least -- discussions about sex. Go to Full Review
Beth Elliott Bay Area Reporter 04/19/2023
For all the matter-of-fact heterosexuality of the core foursome of female friends, I find a remarkable commonality across the orientation line: their antics are awfully easy on the lesbian funny bone. Go to Full Review

Sex and the City is undeniably downcast and despairing about relationships. It is also a clever, articulate, sophisticated late-night view for mature audiences. Go to Full Review

Test T @TestTest1 06/09/2025 I've started watching this on DVD recently. A few episodes in, I'm finding it a little shallow in the storyline department. I know the clue is in the title, but I was hoping that it was just a hook to sell something a little more diverse, with some quality drama and comedy. So far, that's not how it is at all, and I'm really missing the 'Desperate Housewives' formula I grew so fond of. S&TC is not bad, but it stays grounded and is quite serious most of the time, only occasionally offering a hint of mild irony. The other thing I have noticed is that the quality of the DVD image is quite grainy at times, especially noticable in actors facial expressions when talking directly to camera. I suspect this is due to the quality of the source material which I am expecting to improve in later seasons, alongside the stotylines given that the show ran for several seasons! See more Maxwell C @RT14212332 12/25/2024 My feel good show. Perfect for an escape. I am so Carrie. See more Sarah H @RT99696975 07/22/2024 Love all of this messiness, except Carrie, who is utterly unlikable. Apart from her, the show feels fresh, honest and ahead of its time. See more 08/03/2021 Can we get some of this in the new series? https://youtu.be/gsF6zzX8MDk See more cinephile f @RT52030170 06/06/2021 It's great and fun, fun, fun! Women and gay men will love it. If you are easily offended... you may not. See more 06/19/2020 Everything good about this show and bad about Carrie's character is perfectly layed out in season 1. The show is a sort of comic satarie about the dating life in late 90's New York but puts it's emphasis on the women side represented by four very different yet similar-in-type friends: Carrie - the hopless romantic struck back only by her insecurities (and boundry issues), Miranda - the true feminist, her though shell hides a kind soul ever looking to find love without getting hurt, Samantha - "the one that loves sex" as she spends 80% of her screen time either doing it or looking for it AND Charlotte - "the naive" dreams of fairy tail life with a kind man, some kids and a dog. The jokes are way to open for normal day to day chat and that's why it works - anyone who's seen a few dates get's it. See more Read all reviews
