The featured townspeople (all played by Rhys Darby, showcasing his incredible range) are following their dreams, to varying success, and going to sometimes embarrassing lengths to make them come true. David Farrier plays a perfect straight man to Darby's eclectic characters. It's beautifully structured, and awkward moments are crafted with impeccable comedic timing. There is a bit of neighborhood gossip and scandal as viewers piece together the undercurrent of what's happening in town, but overall it is full of heart.
