Adapted from the "Sonic the Hedgehog" video game series and re-edited for a younger audience, this Japanese anime follows the adventures of Sonic and his friends after an explosion transfers them to the human world. There, Sonic is rescued by a 12-year-old boy named Chris, and together they must stop the evil genius Dr. Eggman from getting his hands on the Chaos Emeralds and taking over the world.

SL G @Lloydninjago Jul 29 It's a really good show! See more Fajer A @RT99369293 Jun 1 Best show ever must-see See more Abdulmohsen A @RT47416480 Jun 1 Best show ever must see See more 09/13/2021 While it does have memorable story arcs, better action sequences despite the animation still looking like it was done on a smaller budget than most anime, is truer to the text and the voice actors do a decent job in the more somber, quiet scenes, Sonic X's English dub's sophomore season also suffers from absurd bowdlerisation (refer to my first season review for more details on why this became especially silly when they started adapting game plots), inconsistent characterisations (Sonic, Tails and Eggman are fine, Cream's an annoying brat whom, tellingly, was dropped from the games after Sonic Rush, Knuckles' anger issues are amusing and I'll admit his fight with Sonic during the sun episodes was the most memorable Sonic X action sequence for, but I think they took that "I don't chuckle" lyric from Sonic Adventure a bit literally and Amy...then again, this is an anime based off of a Japanese video game franchise that was always meant to appeal to a Western audience, so what do I know? At least the Japanese writers tried to help the Blue Blur revisit his roots to appeal to his homeland) and Chris being Chris (while the penultimate episode actually had touching moments and decent writing, what Chris did at the very end of the preceding episode had me shocked and completely upset at what he'd done. It was super nice of Eggman to chew him out about his selfish desires in an earlier episode). The funny thing is, I thought the first season was better (if suffering a bit from tainted memory, due to learning the horrible truth behind the English dub's censorship in 2017) but I found the second season, which started adapting stories from the games and had Sonic and his friends ditch pretending to be stuffed toys and changing the status quo to be more similar to its source material, to be more memorable. I'm not sure why that is, but I do have a better time recalling what happened in this season rather than the first season, which wasn't hurt that badly by 4Kids' nature. Maybe it's the nostalgia and Sonic fondness talking - although my Sonic obsession died down around the time Sonic Generations came out, thanks to my not owning an HD console at the time and being extremely bummed out that it never got a Wii port due to hardware limitations...and this was years before I found out how much of a bad reputation the Sonic fanbase has for being a bunch of hard-to-please pricks - but, for all of Sonic X's flaws that the Japanese team might be just as much to blame for as the people who managed the English dub, I still had a soft spot for this show. And while I missed out on the third season and never saw it, instead opting to let THAT scene's original Japanese version emotionally destroy me on YouTube, I can still say Sonic X must have done something right for it to have been the only anime show I have ever seen, a few Pokemon episodes notwithstanding (off-topic, but I never really got into the hype, even at the height of Pokemania). I might not watch it again, knowing what I know now, and prefer to keep the good memories but I'm still glad to have experienced this show and seen my video game hero go on further adventures than what the games offered, whilst still being reasonably faithful to its source material, while still working decently enough as a stand-alone adaptation. P.S. Good Lord, that's a lot of sentences in parentheses. Man, my mind can go all over the place sometimes. See more 03/20/2021 Sonic X is an annoying and boring serie. The episodes aren't funny and the story doesn't make any sense. See more Read all reviews
