It's all visually stunning; just when the saga was starting to feel painfully small, these eight episodes prove there's still vast beauty to be found in animated Star Wars. Go to Full Review

It also seems to be the right course for the Star Wars franchise: letting other creatives realize their own visions of the galaxy across the animation medium. Go to Full Review

The Ninth Jedi is at its best when it keeps its recollections of the films to a relative minimum, echoing them in brief before spinning these familiar hallmarks into something new and exciting. Go to Full Review

Expanding the galaxy with Star Wars: Visions — The Ninth Jedi is another great limited series on the animation side of LucasFilm. While it uses a few too many tropes of the larger franchise, there is still incredible storytelling depth. Go to Full Review

Zachary S @Zach154 Sep 6, 2026 The Ninth Jedi takes the short from Star Wars: Visions and expands it into a beautiful animated series from the same studio. The animation is consistently stunning, from the glowing lightsabers and fluid fight choreography to the impressive space battles. Visually, the series is a real showcase for what animation can achieve. The story is also strong, largely standing on its own while using elements of Star Wars lore to build a world that feels distinct and original. While there are some predictable moments, familiar character archetypes, and story elements that echo the films, the series does enough to remain captivating and engaging. Its strong world-building, compelling characters, and gorgeous visuals make The Ninth Jedi a worthy expansion of the original short and an exciting addition to the Star Wars universe. See more dalmo N @dalmo Aug 28, 2026 Pretty Shell, Old Story – Just More Recycling Visually nice, but completely devoid of fresh ideas. The Ninth Jedi tries to feel novel through its anime aesthetic, but relies on the exact same tired tropes as the Sequel Trilogy (Episodes 7–9). The plot is just a rehash of familiar Star Wars building blocks: a surprise heroic girl from a remote location, a destroyed Jedi Order that needs rebuilding, and Sith lurking in the shadows. Minor tweaks—like lightsabers changing color based on alignment—don't hide the fact that the script takes zero risks. It relies on the exact same formula as The Force Awakens: nostalgia and predictable patterns over genuine narrative innovation. If you are already burnt out by the repetition of Episodes 7 through 9, you won't find anything new here. It is nicely animated, but narratively it plays it safe and delivers more of the same. See more Joey T @RT13942686 Aug 28, 2026 So far, I’m enjoying this See more M U @Nightship Aug 28, 2026 With the inspiration original Jedi duels pulled from Samurai films and the success of other animated series within the franchise, a star wars anime show is a logical destination. The main issues are power scaling and attention to detail. The premise is that sith and jedi are almost extinct and the art of crafting lightsabers has been lost, but the entire series then focuses on a band of jedi and a sith character and they're flying around giving out lightsabers. They chose a time period far enough away from the main films they could have done anything, so it seems sloppy to immediately contradict. Additionally, one character used the force to propel his ship to escape a black hole in the first episode. He's not even the most powerful character in the series, who is shown struggling to catch a piece of falling scaffolding. I know its anime, but there's plenty of room for cool power scaling within the parameters of how the star wars universe has been shown to work. See more Andrei D @RT74856639 Aug 18, 2026 Decent to good visuals, kind of gets it all together towards the end, but the characters are limited in their space to grow because there's too many of them and the script is too obsessed with hitting all the reliable Star Wars beats See more Drew M @Stonehands211 Aug 16, 2026 S2 now please! The best SW series of the year and that says a lot with the Darth Maul series being as good as it was too. See more Read all reviews
