Some remarkable stories emerge from the Bangkok episode, not least that of septaugenarian Jai Fai, whose charcoal-fired street cooking has earned her a Michelin star. Go to Full Review

Don't be surprised if you come away from the show with a sense that, more than many food documentaries, this one is about things other than food. Go to Full Review

Instead of a vibrant celebration of one of the most exciting and immediate forms of food there is, this is an earnest, reverent but somewhat po-faced look at the subject. Go to Full Review

Street Food will all but transport you to the cities it profiles, and if you're the type who wants to eat the best street food a city has to offer, this show will be heaven to you. Go to Full Review

All that's missing is the late, great host himself. But it takes nothing away from the subjects featured, whose long-overdue close-up will make you laugh, cry, and appreciate your local street vendor that much more. Go to Full Review

[Street Food focuses] mostly on one remarkable local chef per episode. It makes a nice change from the usual shows, which approach street food as some kind of random exotic novelty. Go to Full Review

johann m @Johann33 08/09/2020 Great peek into the street food in nine vibrant cities in Asia and the stories of the people who craft the delicious fare. See more 07/22/2020 Me encantó! Enriquecedor Al menos a mi país le hizo justicia Me encantaría ver mas! See more 04/30/2020 I only saw the Ho Chi Minh City episode of this series and I was confused whether i was watching a documentary on street food vendors' personal life and struggles or the food itself. The story followed a lady's life as she expressed how miserable it is for her daily. Having to wake up early and hand-picking snails. The narrative and tone of roughly 30 minutes was super negative and full of self-pity. The street food doesn't seem to be the focus here. The story was a poor attempt to appeal to our emotions and play on our compassion for this lady's struggle. I actually have been living in Vietnam for 6 years now and I do not think she is miserable. She's definitely not driving Porsches but she's also not starving. She is leading a very acceptable life in Vietnam. The mentions of loan sharks and one of her child who passes away. Then all the ritual and praying for her child. I fully respect what she does. It's a tradition here in Vietnam. But...what does it have ANYTHING to do with street food? Overall, I felt a complete waste of time due to: - inaccuracies of the life in Vietnam - negative narrative - pretentious appeal to our emotions - and very little focus on the actual street foods After this episode, I don't think anybody understood that much more about Vietnamese street food in Ho Chi Minh City. Nor did it entice people to even try any of the food. So what was actually the purpose of this? Did i get misled into thinking this is about street food? When it's actually about the misery of street food vendors lives in Vietnam? I think just about any street food reviewer on Youtube is more deserving of time than this. See more 04/19/2020 Misleading title. I wanted to see a variety of street foods with no nonsense but what I got was a show attempting to tug at your emotions. I'm okay with that premise but dude, if you're show is titled 'street food", just do your job and show us a variety. I'm not here for a street vendors life journey. See more 09/09/2019 As someone who has traveled most of the Asian countries portrayed and tried a lot of street food, I really enjoyed this documentary series - the Japan and Singapore episodes were particularily great! See more 04/27/2019 I simply loved this documentary. To me street art ,I consider food is one and dance and music all accessible to public directly. The passion behind it all felt by the audience and celebrated. I give it % 100 See more Read all reviews
