It's 1984 and a pre-Manolos-and-Mr.-Big Carrie Bradshaw ("Sex and the City") is just a Connecticut teenager with a rebellious kid sister and a harried father, struggling to deal with her mother's death. Languishing in suburban life, Carrie jumps at an opportunity to intern at a Manhattan law firm, where the glamour and the grit of the big city make her feel alive. When Carrie meets Larissa, a style editor at Interview magazine who introduces her to a world of nightclubs and interesting people, she feels inspired and realizes there is no going back; she was meant for New York.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Anna Sophia Robb is charming as the lead in The Carrie Diaries, even if this Sex and the City spinoff sometimes suffers from overwrought narration and so-so writing.

Stories about the modern females coming of age are all about the writing. More than anything, The Carrie Diaries lacks good, snappy, plausible dialogue. That's fixable, and it needs to be done stat. Go to Full Review

This is a sensitive, compassionate, surprisingly sweet show about growing up in the wake of a giant loss and about kids who have dreams too big for them to handle just yet. Go to Full Review

It definitely is a little jarring at first because it's not SATC. It's not Gossip Girl. It's more like Sixteen Candles without all the broad comedy. But that totally worked for me and AnnaSophia Robb was really adorable. Go to Full Review

The Carrie Diaries pilot is sneakily good, giving us a completely different and unformed version of Carrie Bradshaw. Go to Full Review

As someone who's been completely won over by this cast and series - despite its (several) faults - I'm really hoping that The CW pulls a surprise and lets us into Carrie's life for a little longer. Go to Full Review

Keith S @KeithLD Oct 11 At first I thought this was a random corny innocent series that starred Anna Sophia Robb as the main actress, but it is about the young carrie Bradshaw from sex and the city. Though I have never watched it and never will. This series and show will leave you loving this show as a whole seperate concept from Sex and the city. Love/drama/heart touching moments, wanting to see how each character will come out of their doom and gloom and wanting a Dad who is just as loving as he is to his girls. Friends that make you want a solid bond like they have and friendships and love you wished they could all keep experiencing in front of your eyes. Sadly this series ended to soon. It might be a tad corny and a bore at the start but it really solidifies a spot in your heart especially for carrie and her Dad's relationship, along with her friends. You'll come to love this cast and their rowdy lifestyle and choices. Give it a chance for Anna Sophia's sake she's so gorgeous. See more steve d @RT35616104 08/01/2020 AnnaSophia Robb, is fantastic unfortunately the rest is insufferable.
