Multi-generational family sagas can work well in a novel, and perhaps this one does, but as a TV show it’s dramatically inert. Go to Full Review

Things often get silly. Really silly, though mostly in a tongue-in-cheek way, which is why it’s such a pleasure to go with the flow. Go to Full Review
Luke Buckmaster Guardian 04/10/2025
The tone of this gracefully crafted adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel is tender and mysterious, imbued with a soft literary quality. Go to Full Review

The mystery is mostly backdrop to a patient, lovely drama that delves into the complexities of family, motherhood, and relationships. Go to Full Review
James Croot The Post NZ 04/08/2025
Sure it’s heavy on the symbolism and the drama isn’t exactly nuanced or subtle, but fans of Moriarty’s brand of storytelling should definitely find themselves well engrossed by the time the first hour is up. Go to Full Review

JuliAnn T. @julesrules Jan 9 I loved it! Great story, character adventures, and family/loves flawed and all! See more S S @Sarah1020 Oct 12 So so so cheesy. It started off as a seemingly easy-viewing mystery/rom-com - the first red flag was when I found myself wondering whether the money-grubbing murder tours were intentionally meant to come off that way or if the writer actually didn’t notice how cringey her own storyline was - then the plot twists and embarrassing moments all came too pre-packaged, everything ALways ends up with a lesbian surprise now, but I think the final nail was the Celine Dion cover (with backup dancers), not just stopping there but continuing on to the husband’s heartbreak performance… I can’t. I just can’t. Nicole Kidman has really lost her way. So many bad acting and producing picks these last few years. Her name once carried weight, but now it’s never anything more than pretentiously dressed cheese. See more Kaky P @RT77274635 Aug 2 I liked the movie, well acted hard to understand Australian/English. I also think too many ladies in the cast and once you can’t remember which one is which, I almost had to take notes. See more Aviv G @RT63196516 Jul 24 The minute I read Nicole Kidman is involved I knew it was good. Such a beautiful story, so good acted and directed, simply awesome. Thie scene with the wooden tray at the end was remarkable. Final extra scene was a bit corny and unnecessary but all in all - highly recommended 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 See more Lora M @Lora64 Jul 8 I really enjoyed this show. I found myself looking forward to see the next episode to see what they will uncover next. I always enjoy a good “who done it” show. See more Geoffrey N @RT97701638 Jul 6 I was looking forward to this because it's based on one of Liane Moriarty's earlier novels, before success went to her head and she wrote a couple of duds. I had read the book and remember at least liking it, and I had high hopes for this show since it was based on a solid source, was multiple episodes to allow a complete adaptation, and wasn't transplanted to an American setting like Big Little Lies, losing it's Australian flavor. However, this show is a complete failure. There are too many subplots and we can't care about any of them. There are four or five awful needle-drop soundtrack moments in each episode that are completely un-called for and very annoying. Why do shows insist on doing this!?! No external music unless it's diegetic please and even then probably not. If you can't pay the composer to score the scene appropriately than just run it with no audio or better yet, if the show stinks like this one just cut it. I started watching large parts of the show on mute with the subtitles. Now, with some trepidation, I have checked the book out again to see if maybe I misread it the last time and it's just as terrible as the show. Let this be the LAST anniversary for sure!
