As a child, Uhtred witnessed his father being killed and the Saxon army defeated by invading troops. Danish warlord Earl Ragnar captured Uhtred and raised him in a Danish camp alongside fellow captive Brida, a sharp-tongued girl. Years later, Uhtred is a valiant warrior who is dealt another tragic blow when his home is deliberately set on fire, killing his surrogate family, including Ragnar. Now exiled -- alone except for Brida by his side -- he vows to avenge Ragnar's death and reclaim his homeland. But, he must choose between his birth country and the people who raised him. If he is going to help birth a new nation and ultimately recapture his ancestral land he must walk dangerous path between both sides.

There was more than enough to keep us watching in the hope that Uhtred's ongoing adventures will prove just as gorily satisfying as before. Go to Full Review

Earthy family drama abounds and it's the soapy elements that make it feel like home. Go to Full Review

Despite her limited screen time so far, Skade [Thea Sofie Loch Naess] has made a real impact and that's going to have repercussions on everything this season. Go to Full Review

Global domination surely looms, since these latest exploits of Uhtred, the warrior who was born a Saxon but raised by Vikings, find the show hitting new peaks of throat-slitting, skull-crushing action and intense personal drama. Go to Full Review

There's also a Danish villain named Bloodhair thanks to his habit of . . . smearing blood in his hair. Subtlety is not The Last Kingdom's strong suit, but I'm telling you-it's a blast. Go to Full Review
