Critic Reviews for The Legend of Korra Season 1
All Critics (11) | Top Critics (5) | Fresh (10) | Rotten (1)
Maybe having a 17-year-old girl run the world isn't as weird an idea as it sounds. In The Legend of Korra, it's sure entertaining watching her learn how.
[Avatar: The Last Airbender was] three seasons of dense mythology, solid comedy and amazing anime-inspired animation, followed up by "The Legend of Korra," a spin-off series which proved even more intriguing and progressive.
Instead of spending time on character development, Legend of Korra mires its characters in absurd, round-and-round fights over who gets to date one another.
The Legend of Korra, another slick-looking, anime-informed concept,... this [series] represents a bit more ambitious storytelling for older kids, and perhaps a few adults with the geek gene.
[Non-benders vs. benders] seemed like the most interesting out of all the arcs.
I've honestly loved that Korra was willing to go to continually sadder and harder to deal with places all season long.... sometimes, things suck and that's the way life is.
Continuing in the tradition of epic fiction established in Avatar: The Last Airbender, this series boasts a surprising level of substance for an action cartoon.
I'm pretty sure Naga is the most impressive character in this show so far.
I found the season to be a delight to watch. The animation from Studio Mir is crisp, clean, and has a wonderful atmosphere.
For both newcomers and fans alike, Season 1 gave us a memorable journey with dramatic highs and plenty of good-natured humor to back it up.
Its finale, in which Korra walked into the sunset not with any of the male characters she'd known throughout the show, but with her female friend Asami, was nothing short of groundbreaking for a franchise aimed, nominally at least, at kids.

2d agoA great new chapter to a beloved franchise!

Jan 12, 2021THE LEGEND OF KORRA, the second Avatar series, is a cleanly animated action story with likable and interesting characters and some plain good dialogue. The sense of timeless fantasy is still here and people who like a good steam punk universe will appreciate the technology upgrade three generations into the story. Korra is an older adolescent, compared to Aang's young adolescent, which adds a seriousness to this series. The character personalities are thematically sound, with Aang a goofy, sometimes flighty air-bender and Korra a sometimes brooding, melancholic water-bender. The Legend of Korra has solid story beats and some of the character stories are more mature than the first series. It's worth watching a few times.

Dec 24, 2020I binge-watched the whole season in two days! The fights are very catchy and the villain is very scary. It's great to see that there is a deeper background story with the villain.

Dec 07, 2020bad horrible abysmal sucks
-
Nov 23, 2020A female character that is a complete mary sue. Korra can bend 3 elements, and has access of the Avatar state. Messes up, and doesn't accept any form of responsibility. Korra has poor characterization and motivation. She does it. Just because.
-
Nov 11, 2020I hear people saying that this show is bad because it's not as good as Avatar but I don't get it. Was any show Nickelodeon put out gonna be as good as Avatar? I've yet to find a children's show superior. These characters are great and they add so much to the lore and world of Avatar focusing on place we've haven't been like the sprit world.
-
Nov 11, 2020The Legend of Korra Season 1 is incredibly fun and even nostalgic at times, serving as an excellent follow up to Avatar.
-
Oct 09, 2020The rushed love triangles and its frustratingly cheap final moments restrict its potential, but a thorough viewing of Season 1 shows excellent evolutions in the aesthetic, characterization, and mature world-building departments since the "Avatar" series ruled TV.
-
Oct 05, 2020A pretty perfect first season. It's so well thought out and constructed. The leads are compelling and complex. The villain is super interesting and fun to watch. It has an awesome balance between being kid friendly while getting more gritty and dark.
-
Sep 23, 2020If you hold it to the standards of its predecessor, you may come out disappointed. Though disregarding the previous installment of Avatar, this season is one you can't miss with the back half of it being almost perfect.
