Cork B @RT87142816 03/16/2024 After rewatching sporadic episodes from across the show's run, a few things stand out: 1) Love boat is at best a filler rom com anthology. There is nothing deep or lasting about the stories' material, unlike say, Twilight Zone. 2) it is cute and breezy, and represents a bridge between older morality shows like Father Knows Best and the sleezy trash that passes for TV today. The sexual revolution plays out through the 70s-80s on the love boat as story lines play with infidelity, partner swapping, failed marriages, etc... all while generally maintaining a positive 'people will do the right thing in the end' attitude. Not quite there is the parade of human waste seen in the Jerry Springer show, although that would be the case with a remake. By modern standards, the show is at best background noise, albeit nostalgic noise. 3) I am not sure why this crew wasn't long ago fired for horndogging on the passengers. The captain is actually about the worst of the lot, all while raising his daughter on the ship 4) I found the cast additions towards the end of the series' run to be a bit lacking. 5) One of my favorite things about this show is trying to guess who the guest actors are. Many are just nobodies, but there are some crazy casting choices here like Lillian Gish! Geez. See more Read all reviews
