Operates well below the standards set by such bygone Masterpiece “Mystery!” classics as “Prime Suspect” or the Inspector Dalgliesh adaptations. Go to Full Review

The show doesn’t pretend to be anything other than ridiculous, and for that I really do like it. Go to Full Review

The revamped format makes the series feel fresh again, and gives the cast a chance to stretch their legs. Go to Full Review

The Marlow Murder Club season 2 is another great example of the ever-popular cozy crime show, but the characters could use a little more love. Go to Full Review

The stories, based on screenwriter Robert Thorogood's novels, are crammed with this sort of arcane knowledge, fascinating here but too often dreadfully dull in the classroom. Go to Full Review

You can tell everyone here is having fun, in a way that's so infectious as to often override any doubts or critiques of the show's flaws. Go to Full Review

E S @RT19263543 Sep 30 Season 1 started out promising, but the second season has been a huge disappointment. There is no mystery in Marlow Murder Club, since the eventual culprit is a character never introduced or explained. Given the typical stellar lineup of mysteries on Masterpiece this show now belongs over on the Hallmark Channel. See more Ruth C @RT87427093 Sep 22 Season 1 was very enjoyable. Season 2 started out with a good story line and acting. As Season 2 continues and does not follow the books, written by Robert Thorogood, the quality decreases. I find the actors acting silly and overactive, almost frenzied. There is little sense of how the plot evolves, it seems to jump to conclusions. The audience and the actors deserve better. Hopefully, the series based on the upcoming book will be better. See more Jonathan M @Jonathan555 Sep 9 Know-it-all lead actress, goofy sidekicks, implausible plots. The only good thing about the show is the scenery. Is there any police force in England that doesn't rely on amateur sleuths???? Apparently not! See more Linda W @RT15964962 Sep 7 It looks lovely! The relationship between the three women is tedious and sometimes annoying. I'm sorry PBS didn't bring back Van de Valk for another season, better characters and mystery. See more Samba G @RT40273064 Apr 26 This is probably my first Rotten Tomatoes review though I review hotels, destinations and restaurants with regularity. With all these reviews; I am stating the obvious. The Marlow Murder Club is not great drama, a series seething with tension or an authentic peek into any one's life. But it is entertaining and engaging enough to see it through. I liked the trio of women who are central to the story. Loved the scenery. And played along with an improbable plot. Never having heard of Marlow; I looked it up and found the location interesting enough to consider staying there on my next trip to London. Given the general tone of most series on TV, despite being a murder mystery with several bodies left in the wake of the story; I did not feel assaulted by an abundance of violence, profanity or vulgarity. It was a pleasant diversion from the usual. And that was good enough for me. See more Toni A @RT13739574 Apr 26 While it is great background noise while doing something else, the contrived plots and terribly annoying characters just make it a rather poor experience. The lead character is impulsive, careless and quite disrespectful in her pursuit of putting her nose where it does not belong, despite being good at solving puzzles. The other characters are inconsequential and poorly realised. Towards the end of the second season the scriptwriters decided to use the traditional ‘character suddenly becomes an utter idiot and does really, really stupid and out of character things so we can move the plot along’ approach to story telling, which pissed me off to no end, so insulting to the viewer. I am gonna check the books to see if they are as badly written as the scripts. Otherwise it is well filmed and if the other roles were actually better rounded ( blame the writers not the actresses) and they could get better scriptwriters, the premise may fly.
