The Way — Season 1

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Hardly lacking in ambition or ideas, this politically-minded fantasy ultimately loses its way by trying to be too much with too little coherence.

The Way is brave and unusual, which is always welcome, but also nonsense, which isn’t. Go to Full Review

There was plenty to admire about Michael Sheen’s ambitious drama The Way, but also quite a bit that made me think: “Eh? This is all over the place.” Go to Full Review
Dan Einav Financial Times Feb 27, 2024

Scenes showing internment camps, vigilantes on borders, caged children and tech corruption are clearly designed to provoke, but lack sufficient context and detail to say something specific and significant about either today’s or tomorrow’s Britain. Go to Full Review
Ricardo De Querol El Pais (Spain) Sep 24, 2024
It is a hard story that can be consumed despite a few development bumps; impactful and well acted. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Granted, at no stage did this feel like anything other than a fantasy. But The Way simultaneously managed the neat trick of making us ask why it had to be one. Go to Full Review

The drama is a psychedelic nightmare. It’s all over the place. It’s definitely one of the strangest things I’ve seen in a while, and definitely one of the best. Go to Full Review

Ash T @Ashley190 Feb 3, 2025 Oh look, the MAGAts review bombed another show they’re not intelligent or morally sound enough to understand or enjoy. It’s certainly not perfect and I wouldn’t watch it again (might recommend it to the right person)- but when shows like this have a 9% from the audience but movies like sound of freedom (absolutely garbage awful terrible horrendous zero talent on all fronts) or whatever Z-list garbage Gina Carano is “starring” in have stellar reviews from the not-even-a-GED crowd, the political bias is clear. See more Bill C @RT35033921 Oct 9, 2024 God-awful - high-school standard ‘plot’ scripted by a guy who grew up in Hull and based upon tired xenophobic garbage about ‘the English’etc.. don’t waste your time, find some wet paint and watch it dry, it’ll be more rewarding See more Laurence d @RT21828700 Mar 6, 2024 Utter chaotic rubbish See more Carole G @RT58667912 Mar 6, 2024 I think it's something about a person's willingness to believe in the impossible, but not the improbable. This just veers so wildly away from any likely scenario that it soon descends into tedium. So many awful real conflicts playing out at the moment this feels terrifically insular. Besides I doubt any govt. institution in England at the moment could find its elbow so a portrayal of freedom fighters tediously working their way through a mountain of paperwork would most likely reflect the bureaucratic horror that would ensue the secession of Wales. See more Alan M @RT07378434 Mar 4, 2024 Never got past thirty minutes of this rambling fairytale of worker’s revolt a waste of time and money that looked and had the feel of a Socialist Worker amateur production.
