Instead, she meets some colorful characters who open up a gritty new world for her. They include Romy, her roommate and a struggling actress; John, a struggling musician; bar waitress Joss; Cecelia, her eccentric landlady; and friendly neighbor J.B.

Hewitt regularly sends the adorableness meter soaring off the scale, all right. But her rendering of the alternately contrived and poignant teleplay from creator/exec producers Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman resembles one long run-on sentence. Maybe this is a wonderful little slice of life and we're just bitter, hardened viewers who won't give hope a chance and our whiskey sour is half empty, not half full, and there isn't, ultimately, enough Love in our withered hearts to enjoy this series.
