Critics Consensus

Harrowing but enlightening, Trainwreck is a comprehensive investigation into the structural forces that led to one of the music industry's most infamous disasters.

Netflix treats sexual violence as an afterthought to the revolution, rage and capitalist greed of Woodstock ’99. Go to Full Review

It is to the credit of British director Jamie Crawford that this three-part film examines the root cause of the unrest: greed. Go to Full Review

Officially a rock doc, Trainwreck’s true genre is more like horror. Go to Full Review

I think the last episode should have focused a bit more on the aftermath of this tragic event but this series was still very effective in depicting the madness that took place over this weekend. Go to Full Review

I thought this docu-series was very effective in highlighting how this event went so terribly. It also shined a light on the incompetent organizers without it being too bearish. Go to Full Review

This one really needs to be seen and talked about, particularly when it comes to accountability of mob mentality and the pervasive nature of sexual assault at music festivals. Go to Full Review

L. F @RT68678650 Jul 9 Q. What happens when the peace and love movement meets the capitalism of the 90s? A. Woodstock '99. I've watched this documentary several times and it never ceases to shock and captivate me. It depicts how a certain set of circumstances combined during a very specific time in our social history to create the perfect storm. Footage filmed for MTV captures the chaos which was so often encouraged by production companies appealing to youths at the time and evidences the lack of responsibility held when this tips into total destruction. The documentary provides an insight into how cultural and generational shifts occur in conjunction with changes in musical tastes and attitudes. It also highlights how organisational issues underpinned by a desire to make the most money while cutting costs and duty of care to the public can have some seriously dangerous consequences. See more Nick E @nicksmovies93 Jul 2 The absurdity of everything that went on should be a cautionary tale. See more Anaclara G @RT80424720 Jun 27 Very well done. Really transports you to that time See more Jan V @RT50475020 10/07/2024 This documentary shows perfectly why you don't let old hippies run anything: they don't understand how people and the world work. The documentary is a bit too long and especially the last episode is over dramatic, but it shows well how W99 turned into the disaster is was. Just like anything on Netflix the pacing is too slow though. This story could have been told in half the time. See more Brian D @Brianwd 09/03/2024 73%. 9/2/24. Corporate greed gets in the way of what was supposed to be a cool festival. It turns into complete chaos with insane mosh pits, violence, sex, sexual assaults, fires and everything else. The people were treated like crap with the conditions, cost of water and food, shower situations etc. and they took it out on the producers of the festival. 1/5 rewatch. Would rather check out the hbo doc See more Stuart K @RT49597298 06/20/2023 While the events of the festival are shocking, one of the most disturbing things is how this documentary treats the multiple cases of rape and sexual assault as a footnote. At one point the rape of a child in the back of a van is given less then a mention. Netflix need to revisit this and correct their mistakes, this docuseries should have lead to the organizers being held to account in court, instead of letting them just shrug it off. The series is very much an account of what happened rather than a deeper investigation into why it went so wrong. See more Read all reviews
