Watchmen: Season 1 (2019)

Season 1

Critics Consensus

Bold and bristling, Watchmen isn't always easy viewing, but by adding new layers of cultural context and a host of complex characters it expertly builds on its source material to create an impressive identity of its own.

The lore gets overwhelming at first but other than that, the plot and characters come to a perfect individual conclussion.

Not a very good show at all, quite bad actually.

the gay sex scenes ruined the show, but the shows a one time watcher nothing special or memorable

HERE's an incredible superhero drama that everyone should learn and watch from

WTF I wasn't expecting that, one of the best comic book films made and they follow up with this crap.

I literally made a profile to express my utter distain for this show. Not something for fans of the original comic. It lacks any of the nuance or cleverness of the original, as evidenced by the way they try to incorporate characters from the comic and laughably don't know what the hell to do with them. But this isn't just a fanboy complaint about them ruining the original work. The technical aspects also falter. There is a postcredits scene at one point where we get the sound of a man getting tomatoes smashed into his face, we hear 3 or 4 smushes over the credits before it cuts to the scene and he's got a completely clean face...until the first onscreen tomatoing happens... Dr M looks cool when done up in CGI, most scenes he's just a guy painted blue. It's just clunky and, while I'm sure everyone involved put in the work, comes off as lazy or just bad at your job sometimes. And, while I totally welcome a more open dialogue about race, policing, generational biases, and a lot of the other topics touched on in the series, I honestly cannot tell you exactly what they were trying to say about any of it. Don't get me wrong, the first few episodes are good and will potentially suck you in, but the full ride to the end will let you down.

Looks terrible. Story is about some sort of race war.
  • Jun 13, 2021
In short: Fans of the original comicbook will LOVE this show, and fans of the Snyder movie will HATE IT. This show embraces the political soul of the original, and MOCKS the hyper-violent, politically safe and over-stylized direction that Hollywood took with the film adaptation. I think Alan Moore would be proud.

Mesmerising. Watched one by one. I want more!

Very solid show with great pacing, good acting, and excellent use of the source material. Would definitely recommend.
