Miriam Karlin

English actress Miriam Karlin was perhaps best known for her role as Paddy Fleming, a clothing workshop union representative who leads her fellow workers on strike, in the British sitcom "The Rag Trade," which ran from 1961 to 1963. The London native received her training in acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began to appear in numerous stage productions. Karlin made her film debut in the 1952 comedy "Down Among the Z Men" and continued to land small roles in various films, including the dramas "The Entertainer" starring Laurence Olivier in 1960 and "The Small World of Sammy Lee" in 1963. Karlin had a minor but memorable role in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange" as a victim of the psychopathic main character. Her small role in the 2006 science fiction drama "Children of Men" was one of her last film appearances. In addition to her famed role as Paddy, Karlin appeared in numerous television series, including starring in the British comedy series "So Haunt Me" as a middle-aged woman living in a house haunted by its former owner, which ran from 1992 to 1994. Throughout her career, Karlin never neglected her passion for the stage, appearing regularly in plays in and outside London.
