Angaleena Presley
Country singer/songwriter Angaleena Presley made her introduction to the public as a member of Pistol Annies, but the world was quickly made aware of Angaleena's abilities outside of that context, as she embarked on a solo career. Angaleena Loletta McCoy Presley was born on September 1, 1976 in Beauty, Kentucky, but like so many aspiring country artists before her, she relocated to Nashville to pursue a life in music. She started out writing for other artists, having songs recorded by the likes of Heidi Newfield and Ashton Shepherd. Presley made a particularly important connection when she met Miranda Lambert. Besides collaborating with her on material for Lambert's Four the Record, Presley ended up forming the trio Pistol Annies with Lambert and Ashley Monroe. Taking a neo-outlaw approach closer to alt country than to anything in the mainstream, Pistol Annies released their Gold-selling No. 1 debut album, Hell on Heels in 2011, and would reconvene in the years to come as the members' schedules allowed. Buoyed by the success of the group, Presley finally released her solo debut LP, American Middle Class, reaching No. 29 in the country album charts. Three years later, she followed that record up with Wrangled, which included "Dreams Don't Come True," a tune written with her Pistol Annies partners, as well as songs co-written with everyone from Chris Stapleton to Wanda Jackson. After that, Presley, Lambert, and Monroe got back together in 2018 after a five-year layoff to release the third Pistol Annies album, Interstate Gospel.
