Bobby Shmurda
Ackquille Jean Pollard, better known as Bobby Shmurda, was an underground rapper from the age of 10, but it was with the release of his song and video "Hot N****" that he -- and his trademark dancing -- really began to draw attention. Pollard was born in Florida to Jamaican and Trinidadian parents on April 1, 1994. After his father was jailed, he moved to Flatbush, Brooklyn. He spent 15 months in detention while growing up there, and he began rapping at a young age, remixing Crime Mob's "Knuck If You Buck" at age 10. He released the hit "Hot N****" in 2014, alongside a video that featured his infamous hip-moving "Shmoney Dance," which became a sensation on Vine. The likes of Juicy J, Lil Kim, and T.I. freestyled over the track, and Beyoncé herself performed the Shmoney Dance on tour. Pollard had another run in with the law in the summer of 2014 when he was charged and arrested with criminal possession of a weapon, but released on bail. His summer took an upswing when he signed with Epic Records, planning the release date for his debut album in late 2014, capitalizing on the success of the Shmoney Dance, which became so popular on social media that it began showing up in mainstream venues like "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" (NBC 2014- ).
