Dido

Dido achieved a level of stardom that most artists could only dream of by writing and performing electronica- and folk-tinged pop songs that resonated with millions around the world. The British chanteuse first burst onto the scene with her debut album, No Angel (1999), which featured her dreamy, slightly cracked falsetto singing honestly about love and heartache. While the album's sales lagged at first, it slowly gained momentum with the release of the singles "Here with Me," the theme song for the supernatural drama "Roswell" (The WB, 1999-2001; UPN, 2001-02), and "Thank You," which rapper Eminem would later sample in his hit song "Stan" (2000). No Angel, undoubtedly catapulted Dido to international fame, yet the unassuming singer did her best to avoid the limelight, preferring to spend time rehearsing in the studio. Her subsequent albums, most notably Life for Rent (2003), not only delivered Dido's signature elements on songs such as "White Flag," but they also paved the way for a long and successful career for the multi-talented and deeply passionate artist.
