Gloria Muzio

Gloria Muzio graduated from the Florida State University School of Theatre with an MFA in directing. She worked her way up through the ranks directing off-Broadway theater productions, finally making it to Broadway, where she directed successful productions like the George Bernard Shaw comedy "Candida," which starred Mary Steenburgen, and Tom Stoppard's drastically and comically abridged adaptation of Shakespeare's "Hamlet," called "15-Minute Hamlet." In 1998, her success in theater led her to try her hand at television. She received her first television directorial credit that year on an episode of the critically acclaimed crime drama "Law & Order." She went on to direct five more episodes of that program. In 2000, she took on her second program, "Son of the Beach," a short-lived sitcom that parodied the sexed-up lifeguard show "Baywatch." She has since gone on to direct episodes of other major television programs like the crime drama "The Wire," the gritty prison drama "Oz," the family/fantasy drama "Joan of Arcadia," and the paranormal program "Ghost Whisperer." All the while, Muzio has continued to work in theater. She has taken part several times in the Sundance Institute's Playwright's Lab where she directed and assisted in developing new plays. She also sits on the executive board of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
