Jerry Clower
Comedian Jerry Clower was born in Mississippi and joined the Navy after high school graduation. His stint in the Navy earned him awards such as the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After completing college, Clower became a salesman. His story-telling abilities boosted his sales and caused him to become a public speaker and comedian. After being heard by a radio station owner, he was offered to tour with singer Charlie Pride which was the beginning of a long lasting friendship between the two. Clower made over 25 recordings of his stories, most of which were released by MCA. He became a member of the Grand Ole Opry and performed there regularly from 1973 until his death in August, 1998.
