Parquet Courts
The quartet that makes up the band Parquet Courts formed in New York City in 2010, sprouting up in the burgeoning DIY rock scene in the area. The foursome consisted of guitarists/vocalists Andrew Savage and Austin Brown, bassist Sean Yeaton, and drummer Max Savage. Shortly after coming together, they released their first album, American Specialities, in 2011 as a rare cassette release in a digital age. The audacity of the limited run of cassettes likely added to the band's mystique, making their follow-up, 2012's Light Up Gold, a sought-after release. Coming out on more than just a cassette, their second album was initially published on Andrew Savage's private record label but the acclaim and popularity got Parquet Courts noticed by a larger crowd. The New York-based indie label What's Your Rupture? re-released Light Up Gold and also worked with the band on subsequent works, including their 2013 EP Tally All the Things That You Broke, which was released under the name Parkay Quarts, and their third full-length album, 2014's Sunbathing Animal. Later in 2014, Yeaton and Max Savage took a break from the band and Brown and Andrew Savage hit the studio to work on another album, the 2014 release Content Nausea, which was seen as a more experimental album with the reduced members. That wouldn't be the farthest experimental reaches that Parquet Courts would go to, though, as they released the mostly instrumental EP Monastic Living in 2015 to mixed reviews. The foursome quickly turned around and worked on their next full-length, though. In spring 2016, they launched Human Performance with Rough Trade Records. The band's next album Wide Awake (2018) found them collaborating with producer Danger Mouse.
