Rebekah Gibbs was born in Torquay, Devon, England, and attended the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts in Sidcup. Gibbs was a stage actress, appearing in West End musical productions like "Grease" and "Fame," but is best known for her portrayal of paramedic Nina Farr in the British medical series "Casualty" (BBC 1986- ). Gibbs joined the cast in 2004 and appeared in over 100 episodes of the series, which focused on the Emergency unit in the fictional Holby City Hospital. In 2008, only 10 weeks after her first child was born, Gibbs was diagnosed with a particularly aggressive breast cancer. Following chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy, Gibbs was told by doctors that she was in remission. She passed five years without incident but in 2013, while on vacation with her family, Gibbs suffered a seizure. Scans indicated that the cancer had returned and metastasized to her lungs and brain. She was soon placed in a hospice for treatment, but her illness did not respond to chemotherapy, and treatment was soon suspended. Gibbs spent her last months in a hospice surrounded by her family and friends before she passed away in November 2014.
