Montreal-based filmmaker and writer Rudy Barichello was best known for directing the historical drama "Meetings with a Young Poet" (2013). The film explored the remarkable life and career of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Samuel Beckett, through his conversations with a fledgling Canadian poet. The film debuted at the 2013 International Film Festival of India and received mostly positive reviews, signaling Rudy Barichello as a promising Canadian filmmaker to watch. Barichello started his career in movies as a producer. His first job was on the low-budget thriller "Killer Image" in 1992, followed by serving as both producer and writer of "Alegria" (1999), a fantasy romance drama. Barichello made his directorial debut with the French Canadian thriller "Dans l'oeil du chat" (2004), which he also co-wrote with Marcel Beaulieu. Around the time "Dans l'oeil du chat" was being released, Barichello and Beaulieu had decided on their next project while meeting in a Paris café. Both admirers of Samuel Beckett's work, the duo decided to write a film about the literary icon. It took them over a decade to secure the funding for what would eventually become "Meetings with a Young Poet," but when it debuted at the 2013 International Film Festival of India, critics and audiences alike praised the film for its immersive character study of the often-cantankerous playwright.
