Lesbian couple Jules (Julianne Moore) and Nic (Annette Bening) have been together for almost 20 years and have two teenage offspring named Joni and Laser, who were conceived via artificial insemination. Unbeknown to their mothers, Joni and Laser seek out their biological father, a restaurateur named Paul (Mark Ruffalo). NYT 1000 films. I was skeptical, but the movie, despite progressive themes, still captures the complexities of relationships and where they can make life hard despite love. Good acting and writing. However, sometimes there were moments that you could see through reminding you it was just a movie, but it still resonates. RUS.

A teenage half-sister and teenage half-brother, both conceived nearly two decades before by donor sperm (artificial insemination of their respective mothers), out of curiosity consider trying to make contact with their natural fathers whose identities they do not know - and so, the story develops. The movie was okay but it depended a bit too heavily, as a device, on "engineered conflict": family members falling out with each other - which became a little tiresome after a while as the audience is obliged to sit through successions of unpleasant arguments about this and that, one after another.
