      What to know

      Critics Consensus

Tim Burton's Alice sacrifices the book's minimal narrative coherence -- and much of its heart -- but it's an undeniable visual treat. Read critic reviews

I think Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is genuinely one of the greatest stories ever told and its a shame to have seen Tim Burton slaughter it like he did. As always he puts his gothic spin on things which is great most of the time, but in this case its really not great at all because I don't think Wonderland has room for a gothic spin. He retains most of the whimsy and colour, but dabbles in a different corner of surrealism that isn't fit for the story and it ruins it. There's no heart or excitement whatsoever and some of it is just bizarre, and not in a good way.

This is one of the few later Tim Burton movies that I actually like. Tim Burton really hasn't impressed me in the later years and I think that his movies like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Planet of the Apes" and "Big Fish" failed big. This is a movie based on one of my favorite novels and I must say, that I really enjoy this movie. The direction by Tim Burton is pretty good in the movie and the fact that he has a lot of great visual effects and a pretty well-written story is really something that I have missed for a lot time. I think that Mia Wasikowska is a really good casting choice and she does a wonderful job as Alice and is really lovable in the movie. Helena Bonham Carter is the thing that - no matter how you felt about the movie - you will leave enjoying, because she is so great and so funny as The Red Queen. Mixed reviews have been given to Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, but I personally enjoyed his performance and that is something that I haven't done since his performance in the third "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.

While it may not be Tim Burton's best in the slightest, Alice in Wonderland still has enough visual splendor and a great Johnny Depp performance to make up for it's narrative flaws and inconsistent scripting.

I liked the plot. The movie made more sense than Lewis Carroll's book. I didn't mind the computer graphics or the acting.
