In Abilene, Kan., Marshal Dan Mitchell (Randolph Scott) contends with unruly cattlemen and a group of determined homesteaders intending to settle on government land bordering the town. Hoping to rid the town of the farmers, the cowboys set fire to their camp, and a desperado murders a homesteader, but Dan refuses to allow them revenge. Joining a posse under a crooked sheriff, and with the help of singer Rita (Ann Dvorak) and a merchant, Dan forces a peaceful showdown between the factions.

10/24/2018 First movie I watched on Toshiba Fire TV. I watched this on the Western app. Westerns are a rare occurrence in theatres nowadays. I'll be enjoying more of these B classics See more 07/08/2011 Randolph Scott could make a good b-movie Gary Cooper, that has to be said... :) See more 06/01/2010 The only thing notable about this bland Randolph Scott snoozefest is the appearance of Edgar Buchannan ("Uncle Joe" on "Petticoat Junction") as a spineless Sheriff and Hank Patterson (Mr. Ziffel on "Green Acres"). Fortunately for them better days were ahead. Ditto for Lloyd Bridges who plays a homesteader being attacked by the cattle men. Z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z. See more 06/27/2009 At 63 years old I'd still call this Western a well done film. There's the classic fights and shootouts but the story is led by a moral law-abiding marshal (played by Randolph Scott) who frees the town of Abilene from its history of violence under the ruthless cattlemen.
