Vixo S @vixo_six Jun 11 Inside Llewyn Davis is a quiet but deeply moving film about failure, persistence and the painful need to keep going when the world refuses to listen. On the surface, little seems to happen, but inside Llewyn there is exhaustion, grief, pride and a constant battle between surrender and artistic faith. Oscar Isaac gives a performance full of irony and broken dignity, while the songs reveal more about Llewyn than his words ever could. The film does not romanticize the struggling artist. It shows cold rooms, borrowed couches, missed chances and a talent trapped outside the right moment. Llewyn feels like a Bob Dylan from the wrong side of time, close to the future but unable to enter it. The Coen brothers turn that cruelty into strange hope. He fails, falls and gets hurt, yet still returns to sing. The film is sad, funny and quietly beautiful because it understands that continuing can be its own form of victory. See more S. An adventurous cat was supposedly inserted into the screenplay to give it some sort of plot/continuity. I then... had to account for myself. Couldn't. Swear at. If I'm being serious, and it's a difficult thought to express... I view their work less as a completed work, more as their telling us how they've been doing, suffused with what they've been reading; aaaand. I just find the contempt a bit stifling, sorry. Oeuvre. Making crime novels into film- Dashiell Hammet (Glass Key/ Miller's Crossing), Raymond Chandler (Long Goodbye/Big Lebowski), James M Cain (Postman always.../Man who was not...) , ... Fargo, Blood Simple. Making novels ?- True Grit; No Country for Old Men. Inside Llelwyn Davis, O Brother. A serious man. Barton Fink. Trying to be funny / screwball ? comedy- and just about succeeding; Hudsucker Proxy , Raising Arizona. And failing miserably: The Ladykillers, Intolerable Cruelty, Burn After Reading. The Davis character, who seems talented to me, if not those in a position to know, pinballs off a succession of memorable characters ( John Goodman is beyond terrific) becoming ever more downtrodden and unpleasant.
