Movie Info

In Die in a Gunfight, Mary and Ben are the star-crossed black sheep of two powerful families engaged in a centuries-long feud – and they’re about to reignite an affair after many years apart. Their forbidden love will trigger the dominoes that will draw in Mukul, Ben’s best friend, who owes him a life debt; Terrence, Mary’s would-be protector-turned-stalker; Wayne, an Aussie hitman with an open mind and a code of ethics; and his free-spirited girlfriend, Barbie. As fists and bullets fly, it becomes clear that violent delights will have violent ends.

Critic Reviews for Die in a Gunfight

All Critics (21) | Top Critics (2) | Fresh (4) | Rotten (17)

  • Schiffli's snarky and snide self-aware tone quickly grows wearisome, and his action sequences have a cheapness about them that's distancing.

    July 16, 2021 | Rating: 0.5/4 | Full Review…
  • It's a shame that it's all so wincingly contrived. The film tries so hard to be slick, but its efforts are both unoriginal and painfully amateurish.

    July 15, 2021 | Full Review…
  • If William Shakespeare were alive, he would retch at how Die in a Gunfight shamelessly steals from Romeo and Juliet and rots it down to the tackiest levels. It's an action comedy that's boring and witless.

    July 30, 2021 | Full Review…
  • For all of its colorful characters and attempts at comic-book coolness, this violence-infused, star-crossed romance ultimately feels even less than lightweight. It feels as if it's about nothing at all.

    July 24, 2021 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…
  • Bonita and Daddario are mostly fine as trust-fund lovers navigating their parents' petty rivalries, but Schiffli's budget-Drive aesthetic does them no favors in this cliff's notes version of one of the most enduring romances in literary history.

    July 22, 2021 | Rating: 1.5/5 | Full Review…
  • A violent Romeo & Juliet-inspired story, director Collin Schiffli makes some interesting storytelling choices, but it's too hip for its own good. What will keep your eyes glued to the screen are Diego Boneta and Alexandra Daddario's chemistry.
