Movie Info

This PRC musical "special" top-bills Martha O'Driscoll as prim lady professor Jane Colwell. Returning to her home town in Missouri, Jane discovers that the citizens are all agog over the arrival of a motion picture unit. Imperious Hollywood director Thorndike P. Dunning (John Carradine) drives everyone crazy with his demands for perfection and realism, providing big laughs for undemanding audiences. The plot concerns the efforts to find an intelligent mule to "star" in the film, bringing Jane into the proceedings when it is discovered that her college has enrolled just such a mule as an "experimental" student! PRC cowboy star Eddie Dean is little more than a guest star here, singing three of the film's eight song.

Audience Reviews for Down Missouri Way

Minor musical, and a low budget one at that. I think it is safe to say though that it is likely John Carradine's best musical! The songs are cute and entertaining but they are not very memorable. The acting is passable, but nothing great. Amusing and easily forgettable. Directed by Josef Berne.
