Movie Info

Angus Buchan's award-winning autobiographical novel is adapted for the big screen by director Reghardt van den Bergh, who traces the story of the rugged South African farmer as he endures remarkable adversity on his quest to discover the true power of faith. Set in the tempestuous hills of the KZN midlands, Faith Like Potatoes follows Buchan from his early attempts to achieve material success, through the personal transformation that follows a series of seemingly insurmountable losses, and a close friendship forged with his faithful Zulu farmhand. Like the potatoes planet in his field, Buchan's faith remains hidden until the harvest, when he learns how the power of faith can help him to begin the personal healing process, and become more accepting of others. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Audience Reviews for Faith Like Potatoes

Overly preachy and a bit absurd Faith Like Potatoes tries to deliver a good message but falls into the category of self-righteous drub when it could have been so much more.

The true story here is fabulous...the putting together of scenes and some of the acting left a little to be desired. The story is really a "5 Star" story of salvation, hope and faith...made me cry a few times...I could feel what they were feeling. Scottish born Angus Buchan, played perfectly by a virtually unknown Frank Rautenbach, ends up in South Africa with his growing family starting a farm from scratch. Finally after realizing his anger problem, among other things, he goes to church at the insistence of his wife who is at the end of her rope. He is inspired by another farmer who is speaking and he gives his life to changes everything and begins a great walk of faith for him and his family, although not without some tragedy and hardship...but the difference is Angus's heart change. Very inspiring story!

I wasn't honestly expecting much going in to watch this film, but I will say, it far exceeded my expectations. The lead actor does a great job, and the execution of the message is done much more effectively than most Christian films.
