Syd and Pink Floyd crystallized a cultural moment where anything seemed possible but where that freedom could come with a cost. Was Syd just another drug casualty? Did he suffer from an undiagnosed mental condition? Or did he dislike the attention and fame as the fun turned to work? While there are no clear answers, there is the feeling by all those around Syd that something went terribly wrong. Have You Got it Yet? is a chronicle and a mosaic of Barrett's creative and destructive impulses, his captivating presence and absence -- a portrait of the complex puzzle that was his life.

Roddy Bogawa and Storm Thorgerson must rely on archive footage, music, and extensive interviews with just about everyone whose lives and careers intersected with Barrett, all given chronological structure by Jason Isaacs' narration. Go to Full Review

What stops Have You Got It Yet? from being just a glorified Wikipedia article is the level of detail each beat of the story being told gets on its own. Go to Full Review

Andreas G @RT11978409 08/22/2024 As a huge fan of Syd Barrett's music (hot take: Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the only Pink Floyd album that matters to me at this point) I knew a lot of the information in the film already. Still there are a lot of insightful interviews and a lot of cool stuff about the psychedelic scene in Britain in 1967. A lot of media coverage on Syd focused on "madness porn" that romanticized his psychological problems, or on the "acid casualty" tropes. I am grateful that this film does not dwell on that. It paints a picture of a troubled, but also highly intelligent, literate, creative and curious person. It concludes with the simple fact that we don't what happened to him. See more Linda P @RT47172156 08/04/2023 I was astonished and grateful to have seen this film in Honolulu. But predictably, since not a shred of publicity was done beforehand, there were only 5 other souls in the theater. I found HYGIY it to be a touching tribute made with love, rather than a documentary. The animosity between Waters and Syd wasn't addressed, and Roger kept a narrow path through his segments. David Gilmour's interview was recorded probably 20 years ago, judging by his appearance. I was hoping (but never satisfied now or anywhere else) for more information when Syd and David went busking in Europe. It wasn't even mentioned. The timeline had some gaps beside that as well, but possibly for lack of archival footage, photos and information. Many of the interviews were interesting, but a few were puzzling why they were included. Julian Placios spoke briefly, being titled as an author of a biography (one of several, not my favorite), which kind of hit me as a tasteless plug for his book. There was some on stage footage that I'd not seen before and that was grand. The little vignettes I took to be representing Syd during his life were a bit trite and unnecessary in my opinion. Overall, being the huge fan and devotee of Syd and his music, I left the theater feeling melancholy, not because of the story, but of what was left out. See more Sal D @JustTheLaw 07/16/2023 Well directed and produced film….it's flows well. What left me disappointed is the pink elephant in the room - Syd Barret's decline - was not truly addressed even by a non-treating psychiatrist/psychologist. The point of the film should be a little more informative about it's protagonist otherwise, I would have framed it more about early Pink Floyd because I walked out of the theater with my date with both of us feeling as if Syd Barret's life became a black hole after he declined, which doesn't require 90 minutes of film unless you try and peel some layers of the onion. Fun watching early Pink Floyd clips and interviews but just missing this one piece to make it a must see. See more Read all reviews
