SkyRo P @TheMovieSearch Mar 26 "Leprechaun Returns" isn't exactly my top pick, mainly because I believe no one can truly embody the character of the leprechaun like Warwick Davis does. This new portrayal wasn’t awful, but it leaned more towards grotesque rather than the delightfully sinister charm that we associate with the original. The new leprechaun felt a bit off-putting. However, I do want to commend this film for a significant achievement: it marks the first time in the Leprechaun series—now the eighth installment—where there is genuine continuity. It actually serves as a sequel to the very first Leprechaun film featuring Jennifer Aniston. In this installment, we meet Leila, who is portrayed as Jennifer Aniston's daughter. Moreover, the beloved character Ozzie from the original film makes a comeback, which brings a nostalgic feel reminiscent of the first movie. The issue lies in the absence of Warwick Davis as the leprechaun; had he reprised his role, it would have tied everything together more cohesively and created a stronger connection to the original. As I mentioned, it’s not a bad film, and they did a commendable job overall. However, I doubt I would watch it again, primarily due to the casting choice for the leprechaun. It may seem trivial, but in this franchise, the original is untouchable, and if you’re going to make a change, the replacement needs to fit the character perfectly. That said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the film. Personally, it doesn’t rank high on my list, but I do appreciate their efforts to build on the original and breathe new life into it. See more Read all reviews
