What I especially liked about this movie is that an outnumbered white man gets the best of his African pursuers at every turn.
Well done, but brutal in its depiction of torture for the unlucky party. Cornel Wilde is great in this film.
i loved this movie, reminded me alot of ZULU
Some rich men are someplace in Africa hunting for Ivory. They shoot some elephants and they drink. One of the guys paid for it so he wants the trip to be excactly as he wants it to be. The guy that makes arrangements and controlls it, known as The Man, is not liking his attitude as he drinks, kills elephants without ivory for fun and disrespect the tribe they are out hunting with. As a result the tribe kills the entire gang of white men. Well, accept from The Man that are made to run out into the wild, naked and unarmed. The hunt is on.
We see The Man defend himself from the guys after him. He hides, eats, run - well, he survives. He's quite good at it too. Exciting, pretty minimalistic but highly entertaining. I don't like the animal cruelty and some racial stuff, but the film is something of it's own and a very fresh film. Made over 50 years ago and it couldnt been done better today. Great film.
8 out of 10 naked runners.
enjoyed as a child then rewatched
now censorship was bad in the 60s but he went from cream underwear to a black furry pouch, which apparently was a spate that the first guy he killed carried about with him.... if you can switch off from stuff like this (I struggled to) you'll enjoy.
saw this as a kid had such a crush on Cornel Wilde
Racist machismo bullshit unworthy of a time slot on a b-movie channel. Read Ebert's review on this one. It is spot on.
Except for Cornel Wilde's very toned body and much violence, there's not much actual plot dialogue or character delineation to this film. Frankly, the old Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan flicks are more fun.
A movie that will inspire you to run naked and beat your chest like Tarzan. Best to avoid this one while intoxicated or breastfeeding.
Cornel Wilde was always fine of physique, so who can blame him for wanting to star in a film where he is naked and alone on screen throughout the movie? One might wish he had done the film about 15 year earlier when he was more in shape, his middle age not so cruelly revealed in a loin cloth. "The Naked Prey" (Ooooh, naked!) is an odd, creepy, self-indulgent film with uninteresting characters and too much raw flesh on display, a constant reminder that life, alas, is an endless race for survival.
