Critics Consensus

It's hard not to admire its unabashed sentimentality, but The Notebook is too clumsily manipulative to rise above its melodramatic clichés.

A tearjerker? It'll make you cry but it's not manipulative. A chick flick? It's just an inspiring love story that will touch your heart and make you believe true love can last a lifetime and conquer all. Isn't that what we all want? Go to Full Review

See more The C @HearthMovies Jan 17 This movie made me cry and as a grown man, when a movie makes you cry tears of sadness and not disappointment it deserves at least 4 stars. The Notebook is a beautiful movie. The historical setting is so well captured and one of the most overlooked aspects of the film. The acting is actually quite impressive and realistic despite the plot being a little cliché. The characters come of as very human and at no part during the runtime do I find myself getting bored. Looking deeper, The Notebook pulls at your heartstrings in a beautiful way that may be a little redundant. But this redundancy can be overlooked when so many aspects of this movie are incredible and unmatched in the romance genre. See more Lee F @LPF25 Jan 12 An inspiring love story, full of chaos, romance, beauty, and pain. There is charm and appeal throughout and for some it may be very relatable. Very heart warming - and maybe a tearjerker? See more Cady B @cb1993 Jan 6 An absolute classic. Best love story movie I have ever seen and the actors are phenomenal. The hate toward this movie must be fake. See more Nataliya O. @nataliyaoli Dec 7 Favorite movie of all time! See more Read all reviews
