Just a few spokes short of a wheel, guys.
An unpretentious throwback to the kind of action movie that had no need of superheroes, Premium Rush is hardly a classic but fun up to a point.

Premium Rush is that rare bird: a chase picture that's just a chase picture - and a dandy one.
A blast.
The whole film sizzles with urban aggression.

Premium Rush isn't mindless mayhem, a thriller for teenage boys bursting with hormonal bloodlust. Koepp's film has a brain...

Audience Reviews for Premium Rush
Very nearly a formulaic piece (like old Hollywood films) where you can see all the pieces fit together almost like a high schooler's report taken nearly verbatim from Wikipedia. The performances do much to prevent this simplification as well as the pure action of zipping around New York City as fast as you can at street level. However obviously the story elements are put together, still a decent excursion to the movies.

This is a solid and fresh movie. It has cool action sequences and a nice story. The casting, other than Gordon-Levitt, is a bit questionable but the fast paced action, interesting story, humor and great narrative come together to form a good movie.

Now this is how to make an action flick! A small one, mind you, but it's one of the most fun pictures to come out. Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as a bicycle messenger in Manhattan who lands the unfortunate job of delivering a small slip of paper worth a ton of money. Corrupt cop Michael Shannon, trying to pay off a Chinatown gambling debt, gets wind of the item and attempts to relieve JGL of it. Unfortunately for Shannon, JGL is a pretty darn fast rider and great with stunts, and soon he has the help of his girlfriend (Dania Ramirez), who is also a bicycle messenger. It's just a simple chase movie, but it's perfectly edited and paced, with well-timed jumps back in time to explain the situation. The actors are all fine (I also really liked JGL's professional and romantic rival, Wole Parks), but Shannon really steals the show. This is the perfect place for his style of menace. Well worth your time. 5 Stars 7-21-13
