Audience Reviews for The Admirable Crichton
I never even heard of this film, but what a gem it is! Brit social conventions are the target here as a snooty family of royals find their prejudices tested once stranded on the ever clichéd desert island. The cast is great in both settings, at home in high society and once roughing it in the wild, too. Another one to look for, and well worth the looking.
To say they don't really make them like this anymore is a bit of a lie as the Madonna disaster 'Swept Away' uses a lot of elements from this story. It would be safer to say they don't make them as good as this nowadays. Here we have the ever reliable More (a mainstay of 50's British films) as the title character teaching the family he works for what it is to be a human being and falling in love along the way. The film looks great (the island looks just like the one in 'Swiss Family Robinson') and a great cast. A perfect Sunday afternoon film. Just sit back and enjoy.
