Jack Folly is a smart, grumpy, unemployed A.I. programmer. When his girlfriend prods him to start pulling his weight financially, he makes a desperate stock market gamble using his new A.I. program "Babylon." But the play backfires, costing Jack his money, his relationship, and his sanity. He attempts to take his own life but that fails as well, and wakes up in a psych ward where he must piece his life back together. Though hopeless and defeated, Jack slowly begins to connect to others, and learns of a long-hidden secret which is just waiting to change his life forever. But is Jack's a reliable narrator in this journey? Is everything as it seems? Or has he completely lost his mind and his grip on reality?

Lexi H @LexiHenrion Jun 1 These actors play their characters so damn likable making The Game of Life one of the most enjoyable indie flicks I’ve ever seen. Nick Salazar gives a performance as Jack that is all at once tragic, funny, and relatable. The fourth-wall-breaking "audience" bit reminds me so much of Fleabag, and the elements of surrealism and distinct indoor and outdoor spaces feel adjacent to Severance. I want to call out the two-faced performance of Art Razo as Eddie, the introspective and unnervingly steady performance of Mark Canjar as Doctor Steve, Charles Dumont as the brilliant but disturbed Old Bill, and the believable love interest of Natalie Beck Lockertz as Jenny. The actual logistics behind the technology require significant suspension of disbelief--the only reason I call the implausible technology aspect out as a problem at all is that some elements of the technology will make you question whether it is intentionally unrealistic due to the character being an unreliable narrator or not.
